SEAD Champion Program
Become a Leader in SEAD today!
Are you ready to step up as a SEAD Leader in your school?
Are you interested in developing your skills in Social-emotional learning? Do you have a passion for leading others and inspiring a positive culture in your school? Or maybe you feel burnt out and need to focus on yourself so that you can get back to enjoying your job as an educator. Becoming a SEAD Champion can help you accomplish all of these things and more.
We are excited to introduce the fourth annual SEAD Champion Program—a revolutionary initiative designed to integrate Social Emotional Academic Development (SEAD) into every aspect of learning in Nevada schools. This program empowers teachers and administrators to foster a positive, inclusive, and emotionally-aware school environment that benefits everyone.
The SEAD Champion program is the starting point for the Mindful Social Emotional Leadership (MSEL) coaching program, where educators can learn the basics of SEL/SEAD and how to implement them into their life, classroom, and school culture as a whole. Through group classes, one-on-one coaching and home study, Champions receive training on strategic planning and networking opportunities with Nevada's leading SEAD experts.
This fully funded program is brought to Nevada Educators through Title IIA funding from the Nevada Department of Education in partnership with Mindful SEAD and is offered free of charge! Educators can earn up to 56 hours of professional development and all will be awarded with a completion certificate at the conclusion of the program.
This fully grant-funded initiative of the Nevada Department of Education in partnership with Mindful SEAD is the fastest growing program of its kind. With over 50 educators who have gone through this program, the SEAD Champions program offers one-on-one coaching to educators to develop leaders of SEAD/SEL in schools across Nevada.
Why SEAD Matters:
- Elevate Teacher Well-Being: Teachers with strong social-emotional skills are happier, less stressed, and more likely to stay in the classroom longer. This improves teacher retention and performance across the board.
- Transform School Culture: Nurturing relationships, improved behavior, and a supportive school atmosphere make a significant impact on both students and staff. Having SEAD Champions in your school will offer SEAD Leaders to your staff who will understand your school's unique culture and how to improve it using SEL techniques.
Who Can Be a SEAD Champion?
Any licensed Nevada teacher or administrator can join the program, whether a classroom teacher, counselor, psychologist, or interventionist. As a SEAD Champion, they will:
- Create Connections: Host Coffee Chats to celebrate successes and tackle challenges with peers.
- Empower Others: Lead professional development sessions and coach colleagues.
- Innovate and Inspire: Collaborate to design SEL strategies tailored to your school’s unique needs.
Benefits for Your School and Staff:
- For Your School: Elevate school spirit, improve student outcomes, and create a thriving environment for educators.
- For Them: Gain one-on-one coaching, earn CEU credits, partake in professional development, expand your network, and grow as a leader.

"Our instructor took an overwhelming amount of information and made it accessible by guiding us through actual practices and strategies that we could immediately apply to our lives and our teaching.
The materials were arranged in such a way that there is a natural progression through the information being presented." -Matthew K.
"I learned that I need to practice Empathic Listening with my friends (with students I do but perhaps I need to learn more patience with adults like my friends - AY AY AY!!) and that SEL Curriculum is being developed for every grade level in some state(s) which would is amazing! :) I love all of the studies too!" - Alissa L.
"The instructor made the concepts and material relevant without being preachy (if that makes sense?). The big ideas and practices supporting them were all related to our experiences and the importance of their outcomes was demonstrated rather than just pointed at." -Anonymous
"This class serves as an excellent introduction to SEAD. I signed up for CUs and license padding and could not have been more wrong in my initial assumptions. At both the personal and professional level, these topics and practices are extremely important and are already demonstrating improvements across the board." - Anonymous
